One win away from a championship, Kyle Lowry and the Toronto Raptors are tantalizingly close to making history as the first team from Canada to win an NBA title.
Lowry may not be comfortable thinking about his legacy on the court, but a kid reporter’s question during Sunday’s press conference did get him out of the one-game-at-a-time mindset that’s so common during the playoffs.
“Mr. Lowry, how does it feel to be an icon all over Canada to kids?” asked the young journalist with CBC Kids News.
It clearly caught the veteran point guard off guard.
“That’s a crazy question. I ain’t never been asked that one,” Lowry responded before taking a moment to gather his thoughts.
“I was once a kid, I was once in your shoes, and to be able to know kids one day will want to be like me, I hold myself to a super-high standard …”

Lowry went on to say that while he tries to conduct himself in a professional manner, he wants people to see he can still have fun at the same time.
After finishing his answer, the 13-year NBA veteran took one final opportunity to praise the youngster.
“That’s a crazy question right there,” he said before moving on to the next reporter. “You can’t beat that question. … You can try, but you can’t beat that question.”
Lowry and the Raptors will try to cement their icon status by finishing off the Golden State Warriors at home Monday night in Game 5.
