Nikola Vucevic hit the free agent market at the perfect time. He just made his first All-Star game while posting career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. At the age of 28, he is squarely in his prime and with no few significant injuries in his past, he should remain at this level for at least a few more seasons. But beyond his own play, the NBA itself is finally starting to figure out how best to use players like Vucevic.

A year ago, a player very similar to Vucevic in Brook Lopez became a free agent and netted only $3.3 million on a one-year deal. But the Milwaukee Bucks unleashed Lopez as a three-point spacer for Giannis Antetokounmpo that could also generate easy shots from the low post when necessary.
